Nextions began in 1999 as The Athens Group, grounded in a conviction that has guided us ever since: workplaces shape far more than work. They shape people’s energy, confidence, relationships, opportunities, and sense of what is possible. If we can make workplaces work better for everyone, we can change what people carry into their families, their communities, and the world.
Dr. Arin N. Reeves founded the firm after practicing law, earning a doctorate in sociology, and teaching courses on law and society. She brought those disciplines together to study workplaces as complex human systems and help leaders use what we learn to change them. From the beginning, our work has connected rigorous research with practical action.
In 2010, The Athens Group became Nextions. As workplaces changed, our work expanded from its early focus on diversity and inclusion to encompass leadership, culture, energy, relationships, and organizational change. Our methods grew as well, bringing together research, strategy, coaching, and learning.
Through every stage of the firm, our purpose and values have remained unchanged. We work to make workplaces work better for everyone in them. When workplaces work better, people are better able to contribute, connect, lead, and thrive. By changing how workplaces work, we know we can create a positive change in the world.
These values below have guided Nextions from the beginning. They shape how we make decisions, work with clients, and work with one another. They are not separate from the work. They are the standards by which we determine whether the work is worthy of the purpose it serves.
JOY
We make room for curiosity, connection, and possibility. Joy sustains the energy required to undertake difficult work and imagine something better.
EXCELLENCE
We bring rigor, preparation, and care to every engagement. Excellence means producing work worthy of our clients’ trust and the consequences our work may carry.
KINDNESS
We tell the truth without diminishing people. Kindness requires candor, respect, and an unwavering regard for the dignity of everyone affected by the work.
KAIZEN
We understand improvement as a continuous practice. We examine what is working, change what is not, and remain willing to strengthen our thinking and our methods.
KAIROS
We pay attention to timing, context, and readiness. The right insight creates movement when it is offered at the moment and in the manner that allows people to use it.
LEADERSHIP
We take responsibility for the conditions we help create. Leadership means acting with clarity, courage, and accountability, regardless of title or position.
